With just a few months remaining, Paris is all set for the opening ceremony of its inaugural Olympics on a global stage.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics was a game-changer for India. With its largest-ever team of 124 athletes, India secured seven medals, including Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold in the javelin throw. The triumph in Tokyo marked India’s most successful outing in Olympics history, setting a high bar for future competitions. Looking ahead to Paris 2024, India is aiming even higher and gearing up for the games with high hopes of winning more medals and making the nation proud. With a focus on increasing both quantity and quality, India is working hard to send more athletes of a higher calibre to the Paris Olympics 2024.
The recent Asian Games held in China clearly displayed India’s rising dominance in sports. With a total tally of 107 medals, including 28 golds, Indian athletes proved their worth on the international stage, announcing that India is ready for the Paris Olympics 2024.
The journey to the Paris Olympics started with athletes like Bhowneesh Mendiratta earning India’s first quota place at the ISSF World Championships. Race walkers Priyanka Goswami and Akshdeep Singh also made history by qualifying in Athletics events at Paris 2024.
Note: Countries are given a specific quota where they can send a limited number of athletes to participate in the games, and athletes can earn their spot through direct qualification by performing well in specific competitions during the qualification period or by achieving high world rankings. India has won 13 quota places so far for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024
In team sports, the Indian Men’s Hockey team has already secured its place in the Paris Olympics after winning bronze in Tokyo, continuing India’s legacy in Hockey. However, Olympic qualification is not just about individual performances. As mentioned above, countries are given quotas, and athletes secure spots through designated competitions or rankings to ensure fair representation.
The National Olympic Committee is the highest authority that decides the participation of players in the Olympics. Let’s wait and see how many more athletes will get the NOC’s (No Objection Certificates) to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.
