Khan Brothers in Arms

Will They Become Next Pairs of Brothers to Feature in International Cricket?

Finally, the long-awaited run paid off as Sarfaraz Khan earned his maiden India call-up for the ongoing test series between India and England. A day after this news gathered headlines, Sarafraz’s brother Musheer Khan scored a ton at the U19 CWC 2024, making it a historic day for the Khan family.

Sarfaraz Khan, the consistent performer at the domestic circuit, finally received a maiden call up in the Indian test team for the second test against England at Visakhapatnam. A day later, the younger brother Musheer Khan created history by scoring the second century at the ongoing U-19 Cricket World Cup. The 18-year-old batter,  Musheer, made an impressive 131 of 126 balls, which helped India to set a strong target of 295/8 against New Zealand in the Super Six match played at Bloemfontein. Later, India comfortably won the match by 214 runs, wrapping New Zealand for just 81 runs.

Musheer is currently the highest run scorer at the U-19 World Cup with 325 runs in just four innings, including two centuries. Following the footprints of his elder brother, Sarfaraz holds numerous records in Ranji and List A cricket. With a batting average of more than 82.23 across 23 Ranji trophy matches, Sarfaraz is all set to make it big for Team India.

Both Sarafarz and Musheer are the future Indian cricketing stars, with Sarfaraz leading the way towards the Indian team dressing room for the very first time. Musheer on the other hand, shines brightly as he becomes the second Indian player after Shikhar Dhawan to score more than one century at the single edition of U19 CWC.

Soon, as the news about Sarfaraz’s selection made the headlines, his friend and Mumbai teammate, Suryakumar Yadav, congratulated him. Surya posted an Instagram story featuring Sarfaraz’s photo with the caption, “Happiest Here. India Call up. Utsav ki Tayari Karo, which Sarfarz later reshared on his Instagram handle.

A Chain of Records for Khan Brothers

Sarfaraz Khan started his cricket career at the age of 12 but came into the limelight when he was included in the squad for the U19 CWC in 2014, which was held in UAE. Scoring more than 220 runs in 6 games with a batting average of more than 70 earned Sarfaraz his first IPL contract, where RCB bought him for INR 50 lakhs.

But the reason for his maiden call from team India came after his exceptional performances in the last few seasons of the Ranji Trophy. During the 2019/20 edition of the Ranji Trophy, he scored 928 runs with a batting average of more than 82. During the next season, 2020/21, he scored 900+ runs, becoming only the third Indian to achieve this feat after Ajay Sharma and Wasim Jaffer.
