1. Beach Volleyball

Beach volleyball is a popular variation of traditional volleyball games in which 2 players from each team. As the name suggests, it is played on sand courts sized 16m x 8m. Other rules are almost the same as in traditional games; however, there are some exceptions, such as in this volleyball, where block counts are the first contact.

2. Sitting Volleyball

Next among the types of volleyball is Sitting Volleyball. This game was introduced for locomotor-disabled individuals in 1956, and Competitions began in 1967. It is played on a 10m x 6m court with a 0.8m wide and 1.5m high net for men and a 1.05m high net for women. In sitting volleyball, the player must have one buttock or a torso extension on the floor while hitting the ball.

3. Jokgu

Jokgu is another of the different kinds of volleyball and includes aspects of volleyball, soccer, and tennis. In this game, players can only kick the ball to send it to the opponent team’s area from over the net. Each team contains four players in Jokgu, one of the most amazing types of Volleyball.

4. Bossaball

When discussing volleyball types, we can’t forget to mention Bossaball. It’s probably the most fun variation of traditional volleyball, combining aspects of volleyball, football, and gymnastics with music in the game. Bossaball is played between two teams with four players on each team.

5. Sepak Takraw

Sepak Takraw is the fifth among the types of Volleyball on our blog. It’s similar to Jokgu, where players try to send the ball across the net by kicking it. However, in Sepak Takraw, every team has three players. On rare occasions, this game can be played among teams having 2 or 4 players.

6. Snow Volleyball

Snow volleyball is just as the name suggests. It’s one of the types of volleyball and is played on a snow court between two teams of three players. Each team tries to ground the ball on the opponent’s court to score points and prevent the same effort from their side.

7. Hooverball

Hooverball is another volleyball type played with a medicine ball. It combines tennis and volleyball aspects and was invented by Joel T. Boone in 1928. This game is played between two teams, each with five players, and running with the ball or passing it to teammates is forbidden.

8. Fistball

If we talk about the types of volleyball with similarities to traditional games, Fistball is a must to mention. In Fistball, each team consists of 5 players who try to send the ball to the opponent team’s court from over the net. Volleyball allows the use of open hands; however, in Fistball, players can only use their arms or closed fists to play.

9. Footvolley

Footvolley is similar to Jokgu and Sepak Takraw and is one of the different kinds of volleyball. In this game, two teams of two players attempt to send the ball to the opponent team’s court using every body part they have, excluding hands and arms. This game originated in Brazil in 1965.

10. Catchball

Last but not least, Catchball is one of the most identical types of volleyball, where the ball is caught and thrown rather than hit. In Catchball, each team contains 6 players. They can’t run with the ball but can take one step in any direction and keep it for 5 seconds. Players also need to catch the ball with both hands before passing it.
